With breeding season nearly here, I recently got a question about acceptable inbreeding coefficients. My answer was that it depends.  Inbreeding coefficients are a mathematical calculation about the relatedness of a pony’s parents.  They are often used to assess a potential mating and can be calculated to a certain number of generations, usually four or six.  Because of our breed’s history, most of our ponies are related to each other if you go back far enough.  Some ponies show up in all the pedigrees of recent foal crops….
